Q:

Can you give our community a brief introduction behind the inspiration to build MATIC?

 

您能否向我们简要介绍建立MATIC的灵感？

 

A：

Back in 2017, a simple blockchain game cryptokitties was able to clog the entire Ethereum network. At the time blockchain engineers acknowledged that unless some scalability solution was found, Ethereum could never be used for any substantial or enterprise grade solution. At the time Vitalik then posted a paper describing how Plasma can be used for scaling the Ethereum ecosystem. It was then the idea behind Matic Network was created. 

 

Since then the idea has been refined and today Matic Network is an L2 solution which uses a Hybrid Plasma + POS sidechain to provide an highly scalable blockchain infrastructure which scales beyond 7200+ TPS at an average txn. cost of $0.00003.

Q:

What is your opinion on the state of Layer-2 solutions ? How do you see then working alongside Layer-1 protocols like Ethereum, Bitcoin etc ?

A:

Scaling is a technical problem and thus there are bound to be many solutions to scalability. There are many L2 scaling solutions out there and amongst them Matic Network has seen the highest adoption. 

 

One of the main problems which one has to solve for in the L2 space is security. For pure sidechains, all assets are ultimately in the hands of the sidechain operator. So a Dapp developer in this case, is trusting the sidechain operator with his/her assets and liquidity. We have solved for this problem by making sure that all txns are checkpointed to Ethereum. 

 

There are other scaling solutions on the horizon as well, like Optimistic rollups and ZK rollups. Vitalik too has talked a lot about these solutions and how they can solve for the throughput and security problems in Ethereum. 

 

We too are incorporating these technologies into our stack and will be able to offer Optimistic and ZK Rollups on the Matic Network as well. 

 

I feel that L1 solutions provide the highest layer of security, so a portion of liquidity will remain on L1, but all the spending money like investing, gaming & consumer engagement related solutions will go to Layer 2.

Q:

How does the MATIC team plan to tackle these issues to reach mass adoption? Let s start with your point on the developer experience?

A:

For mass adoption it s important to create an experience for the customer which is similar to the one which he/she experiences in the web2 world. For example, you need to provide the same responsiveness and speed which a user experiences when they use an Uber app or Netflix etc. Scalability solutions are a way to solve for this and create such user experiences. 

 

It s also important to bring a huge focus on the community and help developers with documentation and tools to create unique user experiences. For the end-user, one needs to be able to provide easy to use tools like fiat-onramps and also build a composable ecosystem with DeFi, Gaming, NFT and other use cases so that the user has multiple avenues to keep himself/herself involved. 

 

对于大规模采用，重要的是为客户创造一种类似于他们在web2世界中所得到的体验。例如，您需要提供响应响应和速度，要与用户使用Uber APP或Netflix得到的体验相同。可扩展性解决方案是解决此问题并创建这种用户体验的一种方式。

Q:

Can you tell us about some of the popular Dapps in the Matic ecosystem for our community members to interact with and enjoy ?

A:

The Matic ecosystem is very diverse with all sorts of Dapps deployed on Matic. On the gaming side we have Decentral Games, Neon District, Megacryptopolis, Zed Run and several other big gaming titles.

 

If you are into betting, we have Polymarket and SportX which are very popular.

 

If DeFi interests you, we have quickswap which is a uniswap fork, EasyFi which is a compound fork, Oropocket and many more.

 

We also have other interesting Dapps like Sapien, which is a social network Inter Galactic Gaming, which is an esports platform.

It sounds like the team is building something unique and special. Can you introduce the core team members of MATIC?

A:

Matic Network has 3 co-founders. Sandeep Nailwal, Anurag Arjun and Jayanti Kanani. Anurag and Jayanti met at a co-working space and started to discuss blockchain in 2016. Post that they got in touch with Sandeep and the idea of Matic Network was born .

 

Jayant, whom we call JD, has contributed to the plasma framework and also created the first version of the Fortmatic wallet over a weekend !

 

Anurag comes with several years of experience on the product and engineering management side.

 

Sandeep has lead several startups before and leads all of our business initiatives.

 

All three are very relaxed and approachable people and a lot of fun to work with !

Q: What does Matic have planned for 2021 ? What does your current roadmap look like ?

A:

For 2021 the main theme for us is mass adoption. To achieve this we are working on 3 fronts:

 

1.Developer Support - We are adding Optimistic Rollup and ZK Rollup’s to our roadmap so that we can provide the developer with options when it comes to developing the Dapp. The  developer can then choose the best method for developing their Dapp and will not be constrained by technology.

 

2.Community Support - For the last 3 years we have been supporting many hackathons and events focussed on bringing new innovation into the blockchain space. We will increase our developer support and add more tools, better documentation, instructional videos and border partnerships to support our fast growing ecosystem. We will continue to add more partners to help our Dapps grow, provide better marketing and technical support so that the Dapps in our ecosystem can narrow their focus on their customers, while we solve for everything else.

 

3.Blockchain Research - Apart from execution, we also want to focus on core protocol level research and how we at Matic can evolve our platform over a period of time to reflect the latest and greatest in cutting edge blockchain technology.
